STI Newsletter - May 2008

May 24th and May 25th
After a beautiful weekend at the DZ, we are happy to report the updates.

CONGRATULATIONS to all those who became certified skydivers this weekend, including Joe Alary, Mike D, Chris Goodlet and Jimmy Perez. We look forward to seeing you in the sky with us.

What a busy weekend it was. We are proud to announce that over 100 people made their first jumps this weekend at Skydive Toronto. Several groups came out to celebrate the groom’s last fling. So fitting that a last cry of “freedom” is a jump from an airplane!

This weekend was also interesting as we had three new pilots flying for Skydive Toronto, including Andrew Cum, Chris Circo, Hossein Kaichegani and Howard Pollak. Great job to all of you, and we look forward to seeing you around the DZ.

We would like to announce the recognition of some of our amazing staff. Debbie Sammit is now Skydive Toronto’s new Physical Fitness Leader. She currently has her own gym in Orillia, Ontario called Pretty Woman Fitness , so go check it out and shed some of those winter pounds.

We would also like to congratulate Marc Downing for his promotion into our Tandem Video Captain. Well done Marc, and keep making those great videos!

Also, big congratulations to Jamie Brooks and Chad Leslie, who passed their tandem rating in Montreal. They will be joining our Tandem team here at Skydive Toronto shortly.

Lastly, Jeff Cook, who is part of our video team, has been promoted into our video flier development captain. Well done Jeff! For all of those who are interested in a video of your jump, examples can be found on You Tube. Caution: watching the video may cause increased heart rate and extreme excitement!

Also, welcome home Dana Sasarean! We missed you! Dana is a gifted skydiver, a Tandem instructor, 2008 Canadian Parachute Member and now will be joining our team as a video person.

Just a reminder that the DZ is now open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We begin operations at 10:00am, so come on out and jump with us. Just give us a call to ensure weather is okay!

May 12th
After an exciting weekend at the DZ, we report to you the details from this past weekend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT! Scott is our Jump Master Captain who celebrated his 44th birthday this weekend. Here's to many more years of Skydiving for him and his wife, Sylvie.

We would like to celebrate the completion of our first jump on our brand new tandem equipment! Another four Tandem rigs are expected in June, which will bring our grand total of rigs to twelve. Skydive Toronto is continuously upgrading our older rigs in order to keep our equipment as new as possible.

We are currently running the Para pilot course and are training a dozen new pilots!

This Saturday started with lots of surprises! We wish to congratulate Alan Ho, a bachelor from Thornhill, who was kidnapped and brought to Skydive Toronto in an attempt to live a little before he ties the big knot. Thanks to Ricky Luk of Richmond Hill for kidnapping Alan. Congratulations to Alan and his wife to be, Bonnie, and may the two of you live happily ever after.

We would like to give a special thanks to Lauren Newsham who organized a group of 6 to participate in the Solo First Jump Course and 2 for the Tandem Skydive. We look forward to seeing you again in the sky sometime in the near future.

Also to note; J-Rodd, our Rigging Captain, had a little problem holding onto his free bag. J-Rodd was testing rental equipment on a hop and pop, and completed his planned cut away when his free bag landed at the top of a 60-foot tree. Good luck to J-Rodd his attempts to get that back!

Special thanks to the Saturday Skydive Toronto team who made it all happen, our fantastic staff, including Kristen, Bart, Craig, Marc, Al, Scott, Nick, Peter, J-Rodd, Sylvie, Rob, Igor and Jamie.

Sunday, unfortunately, was a little windy, and Mother Nature put us on a wind hold for the majority of the day. To all those students who did not get to jump, we look forward to when you come back and fly with us :-)
